Kick-Off + Welcome + Sub Zero Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream!

Join us for our first meeting of the year to learn about Pack 210 and the Cub Scouts!  We'll start with a short orientation and welcome presentation, and then learn about (and eat!) ice cream made on the spot by the Scouts with -321deg liquid nitrogen!

Come see how Newton recycles! Rain or shine we'll get a tour of Newton's recycling facility and learn about the City's sustainability practices. Want a head start? Play the City's online sorting game!

** Awards Ceremony ** + Taking Care of Pets + PWD Intro


We'll celebrate and recognize our Scouts' achievement to-date (including awards earned over the summer) and then veterinarian (and veteran Cub Scout Mom) Dr. Barbara Bower, DMV will teach us about taking care of pets. We’ll also hand out this year’s Pinewood Derby Car kits and give a quick intro on the Derby and building your racer!

In the Water Swim Safety Class!


Scouts - bring your suits and towels! We're headed to the YMCA pool to learn about swim safety and also have some fun splashin' around!  AOL Webelos will also take the BSA Swim Test and work on their Order of Rescue pin.

** Awards Ceremony ** + DEAFinitely


First, we'll celebrate and recognize all our Scouts' hard work and achievements to date!  And then we'll meet and learn from DEAFinitely, a Newton-based hip-hop dance troupe made-up of hearing and deaf 3rd-5th graders who perform hip-hop routines together using American Sign Language!

This is a favorite every year! Scouts will receive their kits at the December pack meeting and have a chance in January to attend a car workshop. Scouts will race by Den.

We'll meet a Newton judge and learn about how courts and trials work!  Then we'll have an Awards Ceremony (for all) including a special ceremony when our 5th grade Webelos will be awarded the Arrow of Light (the highest rank in cub scouts) and cross over to Troop 205!

Visit "Fairsted," as Olmstead called it, the local home of the world famous founder of American landscape architecture and design.  We'll learn about Olmsted, his famous parks, landscape architecture and more!

Build Your Own Water-Powered Rocket!

 

Scouts will learn about how rockets work and then build their own water-powered soda-bottle rockets (look-out for a materials list to follow - mainly a 1 liter soda bottle and a few around -the-house office supplies) that we'll launch during our Blue & Gold Picnic!

This is our annual end of the year cookout/potluck and awards ceremony. Bring the family and bring your rockets!  Click here to RSVP and sign-up to bring a side or dessert.


Other Important Pack Activities:


1. Fall Hike: Middlesex Fells -- Saturday, September 21, 2019, 1-3pm, Middlesex Fells Reservation, Stoneham, MA 02180. Join us for a moderate, 3.5mile loop hike through beautiful woods, including great views of the Boston skyline from the historic Wright's Tower hill! Meet at the South Border Road Parking Lot at 1pm. Bring snacks, water, and dress for the weather!


2. Fall Service Project: Newton Centre Playground Clean-Up -- Sunday, October 20, 2019, 1-3pm. Mason-Rice Elementary, 149 Pleasant St., Newton.  We'll clean-up the playground and playing fields as we compete to find the weirdest piece of trash -- join us: there's always something truly surprising! Park and meet at the Mason-Rice Elementary School, 149 Pleasant St., Newton Center.


3. Fall Overnight Camp-Out -- Sat. - Sun., October 26-27, 2019, New England Basecamp, 411 Unquity Rd., Milton, MA 02186. Cost per person: approx. $50 per Scout (camping, activities, dinner, breakfast) / $15 per Adult (camping, dinner, breakfast).  Every Scout needs to be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them.  Bring your own lunch and snacks for Saturday!  After arriving and setting-up camp Saturday morning, we'll hike to the top of Blue Hill; after that, the kids will have a 1/2 day pass to NEBC's awesomely fun Saturday Open Program which includes pioneering and cooking skills, rock climbing, BB-gun and archery and . . . tomahawk throwing!  Saturday night, the Webelos will cook us all dinner and we'll have a campfire (s'mores!).  The AOL Den will cook breakfast Sunday morning before we break camp and head home.


4. Scoutingfor Food -- Sunday, November 3, 2019, 9 to 3PM -- We will be collecting food donations in front of the Austin St. Star Market (33 Austin St, NewtonvilleMA). Last year was a smashing success. We'll work in shifts:

  --> 9-11am - Tigers, Wolves & AOL Webelos

  --> 11-1PM  - Bears

  --> 1-3pm - 4th Grade Webelos 1-3PM.

Wear your full uniform and join us for this great community service activity!


5. Pinewood Derby Workshop -- Sunday, January 5, 2020, 1-5PM, Martin Peters' Garage, 25 W. Boulevard Rd., Newton. Come use aband-saw and power sander to cut and shape your car!  It's a great way to get started on your car and learn from The Master!

   --> 3-5pm - Bears & Webelos


6. Winter Overnight: Franklin Park Zoo Snorin' Roarin' Sleepover -- Saturday, Jan. 25 (7pm) - Sunday, Jan. 26 (9am), 2020, Franklin Park Zoo, One Franklin Park Road, Boston, MA 02121.  Spend the night at the zoo with unique behind-the-scenes and animal encounters, learning about animals from across the globe!  Includes a light evening snack, continental breakfast, and a free, one-day zoo admission pass valid for one month.  Max. of 40 attendees; cost is $50/person.


7. Rock Climbing -- Saturday, Mar. 21, 2-4pm, Central Rock Climbing Gym, 74 Acton St., Watertown.  The kids will learn to climb from gym instructors - all equipment will be provided.  Cost is $25 per climber; waiver required (complete online here)!


8. 8th Annual Carroll Center Walk for Independence -- Sunday, Apr. 26, 2020, 10am - 2pm at the Carroll Center -- Pack 210 will help kick-off the event by leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance (so please wear uniform shirt + neckerchief!) before joining-in (for those who register) either the 1-mile or the 5k walk through the neighborhoods of Newton Centre . . . dogs are welcome!  the Walk is followed by a great cookout, music, accessible games, raffles, and more.  Click here to register as part of the Pack 210 Team!  $30 per adult; kids under 16 are FREE (but register so you get a T-Shirt!)


9. Newton MemorialDay Parade – Sunday, May 24, 2020. We will march in the parade as a pack (parents and siblings are welcome)! Meet at Newton North parking lot by 2:30PM(there may not be parking in the Newton North lot). The parade is 3-4PM. Wearyour full uniform!
